Privacy policy

This policy describes how videhs-server-backup-restic uses Google data. It is a private backup utility operated for one self-managed server; it is not a public storage service and does not offer accounts to other people.

Google data the app can access

The app requests the Google Drive drive.file scope. This permits it to create and manage files created by this app, and files explicitly shared with it. It does not request permission to read or manage every file in a Google Drive account.

The app uses that access only to upload, list, verify, and restore its backup repository in the operator's Google Drive. The backup may contain personal or business files, databases, and server or service configuration selected for backup.

How backup data is protected and stored

Restic encrypts the repository on the server before upload. Google Drive stores that encrypted repository. A small set of non-secret restore instructions may be stored alongside it. The app's OAuth credentials are kept on the self-managed backup server with access restricted to its administrator.

The current retention configuration keeps up to 14 daily, 8 weekly, and 12 monthly data snapshots, plus the 4 most recent weekly system-image backups. The operator may change these settings. Revoking Google access stops future backup runs but does not itself delete files already stored in Drive; the operator can delete those files from Drive.

Sharing and use

This utility does not sell backup data or use it for advertising, analytics, or model training. It sends the encrypted repository to Google Drive as the storage provider. Google's handling of data in Drive is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy. Use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

This website

These pages have no sign-in, forms, advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. The website host may process ordinary connection information, such as IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site.

Your choices and contact

The operator can revoke the app's Google access in the Google Account connections page. Questions about this policy can be sent to the support email shown on the app's Google consent screen.
